Many soccer fans believe that Barcelona forward Lionel (Leo) Messi has a golden foot. Today there is no more doubt.

A pure gold replica of the Argentinian star’s left foot, was unveiled Wednesday in Tokyo. The foot was created by Japanese jeweler Ginza Tanaka and is valued at $5.25 million.

”We loved the sound of making the ‘golden left foot,’ and it being gold, it was our goal to make the project of recreating Messi’s left foot a reality,” said Masakazu Tanaka, president of the company that made the piece.

The foot was created with the purpose of being auctioned today, March 7th, 2013 to help, specifically the children of Japan after the tsunami disaster of 2011 and children at risk around the world. The sale is done with an endorsement from the Leo Messi Foundation.
