Easy Tips to Soothe and Protect Aching Feet
The Houston Arboretum and Nature Center is providing the perfect backdrop for two days of Halloween fun. Take your family and do some trick-or-treating in natures neighborhood for their ArBOOretum event on October 25-26, 2014. If you work on your feet all day, though, walking all over a nature center might not be your idea of a good time. You may not have a choice but to be on your feet for hours on end, but we can give you some great tips on how to protect your feet from injury and soothe the aching that creeps in at the end of the day.
Lets start with some measures you can take to soothe the aches and pains. First, ask your doctor if it is safe to take an anti-inflammatory medication, as this will help with swelling and pain. Second, take a seat and roll your foot over a cold water bottle. This icing technique will soothe the muscles in the arch of your foot. You can do this for 20 minutes, several times a day. Next, cross one foot over the other knee and grab your toes. Gently pull them toward you to stretch the plantar fascia, which is the main ligament that runs along the bottom of your foot. It is a place vulnerable to wear and tear, and stretching will help prevent tears and injury. Finally, take a break from any high-impact activity after work and just rest with your feet elevated to reduce swelling.
To protect your feet from future problems, first make sure you are wearing the best shoes possible. While your outfit or uniform may look best with a pair of high heels, your feet will rebel. Opt for a well fitting shoe with great support and cushioning. We can also provide you with a pair of custom orthotic inserts that can further cushion your feet and keep them supported all day long.
